Dr. James Moeser is Chancellor Emeritus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Professor of Music, and Senior Consultant for Special Initiatives at the UNC Institute for Arts and Humanities. As chancellor from 2000 to 2008, he articulated the vision that UNC should be America’s leading public university. James received his undergraduate degree in organ performance with honors at the University of Texas in 1961. As a Fulbright scholar, he studied in Berlin and Paris in 1961-62. His master’s degree in musicology was conferred in 1964 by the University of Texas. He received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 1967.
